Dear David,
I know some people that actually said things like, we can't have a black president or a black man will never become our president. I would say to them, have you listened to him speak, have you heard him talk about what he hopes to achieve as our president? Often times the answer was no, they couldn't get passed the color of his skin to hear his voice. If we only had a radio and you didn't know what he looked like or what color his skin is would you have listened then I asked? This usually put people in a befuddlement. Obama could be as purple as Barney the dinosaur for all I care. When he spoke I felt his promise and hope for a better tomorrow, a better future for my 17 year old son. After 8 years of disappointment and the observation of our country's demise I was ready for someone that I believed could make a difference. I voted for Obama because I could put my trust and faith in him. Is it a moment in history for black Americans, of course it is, but more importantly it's a moment in history for the betterment of this country and for all mankind.

isnt it odd
when i was reading your comment
when i came to the words
when you asked them:
"...if they'd listen to...him..."
i thought you were going to say
"...have you listened to...yourselves...
and what you are really saying...
about yourselves..."
the best part
of course
is that they have been proven wrong
resoundingly, undeniably and unavoidably
and will get to live the results
of their need to grow
for the next 4 years...
history is like that
as we have all learned
for those who find themselves
on the wrong side of history...
